FAQ

Welcome to the Rogers Virtual Learning FAQ Page

Welcome to the Rogers Virtual Learning (RVL) FAQ page! Here, you will find answers to common questions about our virtual learning programs for all grade levels. This page is designed to help parents, students, and guardians understand what to expect from RVL and navigate our programs with ease.

For more specific FAQs tailored to different grade levels, please visit the dedicated pages for K-5, 6-8, and 9-12. Thank you for considering Rogers Virtual Learning. If you have any additional questions, please contact us. We are here to support you!

Is the curriculum self-paced?

Virtual learning is flexible, but it is not self-paced. Students can choose where and what part of the day they schedule to do their work, but all work has timelines. Teachers will always be flexible with students who have events, sports, illness, and other extraordinary situations that arise, but communication is the key. Students are expected to follow work and grading policies, set forth by their teachers.

Can I enroll in RVL at any time during the school year?

A referral to enroll in RVL must start at the zoned boundary school with a request from a parent. Any request to enroll in RVL, outside of a natural start date of August or January, needs building administration approval, based on need. Transitioning to a virtual platform mid-semester is not seamless and can be difficult for students already having difficulties in the traditional setting.

What are the qualities of a successful virtual student?

  1. Active and available parent engagement
  2. A home environment conducive to learning/dedicated workspace
  3. Routine
  4. Accountability

Are students issued a school Chromebook, if needed?

Yes, we can check out an RPS device for our students, but students must have internet access available at home. Students are responsible for taking care of devices and returning them to the program, upon exiting RVL or at the end of the school year. Any devices not returned will result in a fine or hold being placed on the student’s account. If a Chromebook becomes damaged, please contact us and return it. Devices can be repaired without incurring a fine. Device use is monitored and tracked by RPS, even as a virtual student. Students are required to abide by the same internet and technology use policies, as any in-person student. They are subject to the same consequences for misuse, as outlined in the RPS student handbook.

Can RVL students still participate in activities at their zoned buildings?

As long as a student is not under expulsion restriction, they are encouraged to continue participating in events at their zoned school. We encourage families to stay plugged into their school email and social media accounts to stay informed about events.

Do we take attendance in RVL?

Students enrolled in virtual programs are still held accountable to the Arkansas Compulsory Attendance Law. Elementary students will be required to complete attendance check-ins regularly, also factoring in work engagement and positive progress toward their academic goals to remain in good standing with attendance. For secondary students, they must stay within the agreed minimum work activity hours per week, minimum assignment completion per class/per week, and not fall below passing to remain in good attendance standing. Students are marked absent when they fail to meet the outlined expectations. Virtual students are subject to the same attendance consequences, as any in-person student, including being dropped for lack of attendance, loss of credit, and in the case of extreme attendance violations, filing a FINS(Family in Need of Services) petition with the juvenile court for violating the law.

Can a student be removed from RVL?

Yes. Each situation is looked at case-by-case. We look at several factors before determining a return to in-person learning. Typical red flags are failure to make adequate progress in their classes, poor attendance, failing courses, inappropriate online behavior, lack of communication, inadequate support at home, refusal to engage in support resources, etc. At the end of the day, not all students will find success in a virtual environment. Parents will always be informed and encouraged to be involved in placement decisions.

Will students have required virtual meetings?

In elementary, yes, but timing and frequency will be decided between the elementary teacher and family. Secondary students do not have required virtual meetings but can schedule virtual meetings with their teacher for guidance and support. All students entering RVL are required to participate in an onboarding orientation with RVL staff.

Are there opportunities for virtual students to engage socially with peers?

Yes. Students and families will have opportunities to participate in planned field experiences at our building and locations within the community, throughout the school year. Field experiences are designed to be little to no cost to the family. However, transportation to and from field experiences is the responsibility of the family.

If my child is struggling with the work, what supports are provided to virtual students?

Virtual students have access to a variety of resources including supplemental materials provided by the teacher, guided instruction/tutoring in the building (upon request), virtual meets, video feedback, and pacing guides to keep them on track with assignments. We can customize any of these resources to help meet the needs of our students. One thing we cannot customize or make up for is the lack of responsibility for the students to engage with the resources available to them.
